Biography
Lucinda showed her first signs of becoming an artist as soon as she was able to pick up a pencil and paint brush! With the help of an extremely supportive family, she first began weekly art classes when she turned 6 years old, which carried her out until she turned 14; switching to Visual Art and Theatre classes in high school.
Lucinda’s obsession with creature costumes all started at the age of 13.
She would spend every night after high school researching and teaching herself how to make her own “cosplay” and character masks. Her first ever completed suits, the Cheshire Cat and White Rabbit from a dark re-telling of “Alice in Wonderland” won her “Best Cosplay Group” at AvCon (Adelaide’s Anime and Videogame Convention) 2011, against over 50 other intermediate and professional competitors.
By late-highschool (2014), Lucinda had also developed a passion for live production and performance, which sparked her interest in theatrical makeup and costume design.
From there, she enrolled in a “Cert 3 in Live Production and Services” course at Adelaide College of the Arts, which lead into studying “Cert 4 in Props and Set Construction” and a “Diploma of Live Production Design” not long after, circa late 2017. Lucinda was equipped and ready to go solo and start exploring more possibilities on her own.
After completing College, she took her interest in makeup and costume more seriously, and created the persona of “Pickles”, a drag character she had come up with so she could become more involved with
Through the art of drag, Lucinda has been lucky enough to work alongside international talent. Under the pseudonym “Pickles”, she has directed and produced a variety of her own Drag themed shows, including live musical showcases and her own solo art exhibition.
She has recently been teaching herself the skill of 3D Digital Modelling and Printing, which she sees playing a vital role in her future as a creature and effects artist.
Lucinda is always finding new skills to add to her repertoire, learning from others and looking for ways to improve her work quality every day, constantly evolving as a modern artist.
